The Vulcan B Mk II Flies Again!!! And we still do the full set of plans!
This set of plans (all 40 sq ft of them) is taken directly from the Avro/D H wind tunnel drawings for the B Mk II bomber (the final form). All the ribs and formers are laid out plank-wise so it is possible to stick them directly to the planks with artist’s spray adhesive and then cut them out. The plans were originally supplied as a kit with a variety of vac formed shapes for cockpit, engine cowlings etc. This was in 1970 - since then Micro-Mold plastics who did the vac forms seem to have disappeared. So I just offer the drawings now. The original was pictured at the Nats in RCM&E August 71 and reviewed by the same mag in the following month. It is big - 6 ft span and 9 sq ft of wing. The fuselage is 5' 4" long but only 18" wide with the wings detached. Even if you overdo the paint, a 0.60 2-stroke with pusher prop has no trouble getting it flying. Like most deltas it doesn't stall, it just mushes if short of speed. Doesn't drop a wing either (lots of wash-out). It will roll and loop and generally handle like a sportster. Take off run is minimal because of the low wing-loading: 10-12 lb spread over 9 sq ft doesn't amount to much and I flew the original on a Merco 61, not the most powerful of engines. I used to get control flutter if I dived it too fast but that was with snakes to a central mechanical servo mixer, in-wing servos should eliminate that.
